Connecting to WiFi

[AC Question]

I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 (SM P600) but can't seem to connect to WiFi even though the device is within a metre of our modem router. The WiFi is turned ON in the device but it tells me that it is not within range. The other option it told me when I tried a different method, was TRY LATER. Anyone have any suggestions?
