htc evo 3d black screen

[AC Question]

First the phone wouldn't charge. Thought it was cable port, so I bought new batteries. Charged and installed them. Now it powers on, but the only thing that lights up is the "home" keys at the bottom of the screen. The screen is black. Is it the digitizer? Is the phone shot?

Sounds like the phone is failing. Contact HTC if the phone is still under warranty, or bring it to a repair shop.
