Default Is android system making my nexus 4 battery drain?

Hi. Recently my battery is draining much faster than before. I have my phone 8 months and I'm not sure what the cause is. Perhaps it's the Android system (I have 4.4.4).
My battery used to last long. With the screen on and me using whatsapp or 9gag the battery would drop about 12%p/h, lasting about 7 hours of screen time. Now it can reach 25%p/h and more. The battery's temperature also seems higher. I tried resetting my phone a few weeks ago and it didn't help much, but I know for sure that I don't have too many running apps. The phone isn't rooted. My location settings, Google now, Google sync and all the regulars are off, so I don't know what's the problem.
When I check the battery stats it seems that Android system is always 23% and higher, sometimes a lot higher, and it's on top of the list. Only if I use the screen for long it becomes first on the list, and not by much.
A few months ago the screen was always at about 40% and Android system about at 10%, which I know is normal with most phones. I don't recall if this problem occurred since an OS update, but I find it hard to believe that after 8 months the battery is already bad. Does anyone have a suggestion? I hate the feeling that I have to save my battery and hardly use the phone if I'm not home
Thanks. I'm adding a few photos of the battery stats.

*When I am not using the phone, it sometimes seems OK with about 2%p/h and sometimes it's crazy with 8p/h when I'm sleeping.
*My phone still works fast and I always scan it and take good care of it.

Whenever I have had Android OS using abnormally high battery, I've found that a soft reset fixed it. I imagine that you must have tried that, as well as cache clearing?

I have tried resetting and I always clean cache with clean master. It doesn't seem to make a difference

I beg your pardon, I see with my magnifier that your problem is with Android System, not Android OS. Even so, have you considered a Force Stop? I'm not recommending it because I don't know what it will do.

I have tried it a few times and it hasn't seemed like it made a change.
Maybe there is something more specific i can disable or fix?

Have you tried turning off wifi for a while to see if that helps?

Also is your mobile data signal strong?

The problem remains regardless of the WiFi being on or off. Same with the signal strength.

    Try these, perhaps separately:

Go to Settings > Wifi > Advanced, and turn off Scanning Always Available and Wifi Optimisation.

If that is useless, uninstall all non- essential apps and see whether that does it.

If neither of these tactics work, report back.

If you go to Settings > Apps > All, and click on Android System, it lists the app permissions. I'm inclined to think it may be something to do with the section dealing with wifi and radio. If it's radio, are you set to what is currently the appropriate network setting for your device? Go to Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Preferred Network Type.

Put your phone in Safe Mode for a regular day's use. This should help identify if it's an app problem or network problem. To get into safe mode:

Press and hold the power button until the Power off menu appears, then press and hold Power off until you get promoted to reboot into safe mode.

I apologise for not expressing myself clearly. All I meant in my last post was, go to Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Preferred Network Type, and make sure the setting is correct for your area. There may have changes to your network signal of which you are unaware....your network provider would be able to tell you.

MkVsTheWorld's suggestion is good and he has expressed himself more clearly than I did.

Hi. I used my phone for a day on safe mode and the battery has definitely improved, with more than 12 hours of usage, including more than 2 hours of screen time and 2 hours of music playing. Of course this isn't like before, but it is definitely better. Also, the Android system percentage was lower than 15, which is normal. The phone's temperature also seemed regular.
Does this mean that one of my apps is forcing the Android system to work extra time? I have a few apps that may cause this: power toggles, NILS, DU battery saver, clean master, Facebook and more. Should I disable each one separately?
    Thanks for the help

All the third-party apps you've downloaded via Playstore are disabled when you are in Safemode, so the normal procedure is to uninstall all those apps, then reinstall them one at a time until you experience the original problem again. Then you will know which app is the cause and you can uninstall it again, permanently. Of course you may find that more than one app causes problems.

    Let us know what happens.

Hello. After a few days in which no improvement has shown (and a second successful trial using safe mode) I decided to delete a few apps (not all of them as you suggested, but only some that I suspected) - Facebook messenger, NILS, and an app which controls the LED light. I also noticed that Facebook runs a lot in the background, so I disconnect when I don't use it. Now the battery can hold all day when I don't use the phone much, and when in usage the drop rate is about 15%p/h. This is definitely OK. Furthermore, the Android system now uses about 13-15% of the battery, which is better than before. I can surely live with this and I am sure I can slightly even improve the performance if I need to.
Thank you both very much for the help!
