Galaxy s3 mini microsd card?

I've recently bought a new sd for my galaxy s3 mini, and I can't transfer apps to the sd card. Will I need to root it before being able to? And if so can anyone tell me how to go about it, or link me to it? Thanks.

Thank you, I'll do that. Why do they bother having one if you have to basically hack the phone to use it?
