Unable to Download music for Offline Listening with Play Music

[AC Question]

I'm having trouble downloading music using the play music app. I'm using a 3 month free trial for having a chromecast. I'm able to press the "offline" icon and it seems to begin the download as the dark grey circle within the lighter grey circle appears. However, this is as far as it gets no matter how long I wait. I'm connected to wifi that works for everything else, have tried restarting the phone, as well as un installing and reinstalling the current version of play music. Any ideas?

For reference, my phone is an HTC One M7 with 4.4.2, play music app is version 5.6.1609.

Try going to Settings>App Manager>Google Play Music, Clear Cache/Data, then Force Stop.
