Default Not enough space in device memory

When trying to open the gallery I get the following error message:

"There is not enough space (10MB) in your device memory"

I am also getting the "Storage space running out!" message on the home screen, however when i open storage settings it says I have 109MB free not 10MB... i have tried deleting files (it was on about 20MB left before doing so) but it still wont open the gallery and still claims there is only 10MB space available. Strange thing is if I repeatedly try to open the gallery the remaining space fluctuates between 8 and 10 MB free.

Ive tried clearing caches, closing open apps, and restarting my device with and without the SD card in with no luck... please help!

109 MB free storage isn't much. The phone will want more than that. Is there anything you could off load to the SD card?

I've only got 18MB left on my SD card! Ive only had the homescreen notification in the past when the device storage has been below about 50MB, and the gallery has still worked when I had it. It just seems strange that it seems to think it only has 10MB left no matter how much I delete...
