HTC M8 - Do AT&T lock screens have "device data will be deleted after xxx attempts"?

AC Question

Last night my new M8 wiped itself. I was using it, got in a car, walked a bit, and 25 minutes later I look at it and everything was gone. I had the PIN lock enabled - my assumption is that it activated in my pocket and the PIN screen triggered, as numerous others have reported. On my phone it says you have "xxx attempts left before device data will be deleted". Is this a verizon thing only(which I have)? DO HTC phones on AT&T have this?

Considering I've had this less than 2 weeks, I imagine it's a pretty safe assumption it will happen again. So I'm trying to decide whether to return my phone and get an S5, if this is an HTC thing, or if this is a carrier policy or what.

Shame whoever's responsible has such an idiotic security policy that you can't modify or disable with an option. I can see the utility, I just don't want it, and don't want to have to reload everything on my phone every 2 weeks.

Thanks!
