Which carrier are you on? What's the model number? What Android version are you on?

What carrier? Sometimes different carriers have different root methods.

Since Towel Root roots at the Linux level, it usually doesn't depend on carrier or Android version. It may depend on the carrier having patched the exploit in the Linux kernel. (And it's an Android app, so you don't need a computer to root the phone.)

True, but if the device has a kernel built almost anytime in June, that exploit will not work.
