SGS II GTI9100G not getting out of boot loop

[AC Question]

Hi! First of all sorry for my ignorance. My SGS II went into boot loop after an update, showing the black screen with the logo. After going thru this forum I got to recovery mode and selected "wipe cache partition" , pressed home key. After the wipe it again goes into the same boot loop. I have pictures on the micro SD card I dont want to lose. Can anyone please help me with what I need to do to be able to recover my phone operation? Thanks in advance. Originally I was on Android 2.3.6

Welcome to Android Central! Is the phone rooted or unrooted?

A couple of basic things to try would be to remove the microSD card (since a corrupt card can cause various problems) and to try a new battery.
