Default Android - device memory - available space

My phone is Samasung Galaxy Xcover 2 (S7710) with an internal device memory of 4GB. The phone runs on Android 4.1.2.

When I open the SETTINGS and go to the STORAGE it shows the following -

    Total space - 1.08GB

    Applications - 788MB

    Available - 212MB

When I open the APPLICATIONS MANAGER it shows the following -

    Apps - 887mb in use

    321mb - free

The biggest apps are - Chrome (291mb), Google search (44.55mb) and Google Play Services (42.8mb)

How much space does the Android operating system occupies?

Today I had a look at friends phone which also has 4GB. internal memory - his phone runs on Android 4.2, but his Total Space and available space are much bigger! - How come?

Is anything wrong with my phone?

The space I have is after deleting some apps such as Skype, Live Chat, Google Drive, Google Plus, etc.

    Why is that?

What should I do? Maybe reset to factory default?

    The whole thing is frustrating...

The Operating System will occupy a substantial part of the 4GB storage of the phone. I don't know exactly what that would be but would not be surprised if it were 3GB. Are you not able to increase the storage by using an SD card?

It's generally a little over 3GB for the OS. Even more if there's a skin like TouchWiz over it. His is just under 3.

OP, you can look at this guide to see if there's anything you can do to possibly free up space: [GUIDE] Android Memory and How to Deal with Low Memory Warnings
But like Belodion said, the OS uses a large part of your internal storage. There's no way to free up some of the space that's already been set aside for the OS.
