Wifi hotspot for unrooted Verizon Droid Ultra

AC Question

Good day all. I own an unrooted Droid Ultra, running kitkat 4.4.4 . I have no internet at home (I live in the boonies) and need to generate a mobile hotspot. I have tried installing PdaNet, Open garden, etc. None of them work. I get a pop up saying "checking subscription status" and then a phone number for Verizon.

Any ideas on how I can make this work? I'd prefer not to root my phone. Thank you.

Welcome to Android Central! I've heard that carriers are clamping down on free tethering apps like FoxFi and PDANet. You may have to give in and pay for the Verizon hotspot service.
