    Default Backspace and Shift keys not responding

    When using the keyboard, whether in messaging or on chrome, the backspace and shift keys do not work or respond at all. They can only be used when the phone is horizontal, and the same areas of the screen respond fine which leads me to believe the problem isn't with the screen. Any advice or solutions would be very much appreciated... it's incredibly annoying.

    In the first instance, try a Soft Reset....Power Off the phone, followed by Restart.
    If no go, report back and we'll try other things.

    Nope, have tried this many times, no luck.

    I forgot to add, It is a Nexus 4.

    Okay, let's try Settings, Storage, Cached Data, and wipe the cache.
    If no good, try a Cache Partition wipe....in case you don't know, here's how (on the Nexus 5, it takes 5 or 10 minutes once you start the wipe, may or may not be the same on the 4, just to let you know):

    I tried a factory reset to see if it was app related, but this resulted in no change. Any other ideas? or does it seem that it is a faulty screen?

    Have you tried with different keyboards? If not, download a free one and run a test. SwiftKey could be a good option.

    If there is no change with a different app, then I would say that it is a hardware issue.
