Welcome to Android Central! Which phone do you have? What exactly do you want to backup--the various app data, or an actual image of the phone as it is?

If you use Google apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, etc., all of that information gets synced automatically to the cloud (where you can access it on your computer browser as well), so you shouldn't have to worry about that data. Other apps may also sync with their own servers (like Facebook). But other data like photos won't automatically backup, unless you have the Google+ Auto Backup setting turned on.

You could try an app like Helium. Certain phone manufacturers also have their own backup apps, like HTC (HTC Sync) and Samsung (Kies).
