Hello.
Welcome to Android Central.
Do you use the phone's stock/supplied messaging app. You don't say what model of phone it is, but it may help clearing out the data and cache of the messaging app, and wiping the cache partiition of the phone itself. There are simple guides.

If you have had the phone a long while, or you have a lot of messages stored, it may help to delete a large amount of texts, painful as it may sound. You can first go to settings (General) Apps or Applications Manager - swipe across to All - find the Messaging app, touch and clear the cache and data with the boxes provided. Clearing data and cache will not delete your messages at this stage.
