Email app draining battery on Nexus 4

[AC Question]

I have a Nexus 4 running Android 4.4.4. For the past few days, the battery on my Nexus 4 has been draining like crazy, and this morning it lasted only 3 hours. I installed a few new apps recently (commonly used ones like Dropbox and Kindle) and I thought one of them might be the culprit, but when I checked my battery settings, it turns out it's the Email app (70%). I haven't changed any of the settings there in ages, and it's been fine until now. I have it set to sync every 15 minutes.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and how I can fix it?

Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried rebooting the phone? Or going to Settings>Apps>All​, selecting Email, and Clearing Cache?
