G2 times out when making phone calls and have to try again

I've had this weird problem for a while now where my G2 running 4.4.2 times out when making a phone call. It probably happens 85% of the time when I make calls. What happens is I hit the call button, the screen goes black, the little grey circle spins for a second and then the program just returns to the dial screen. The really annoying part is that it doesn't show in my call logs so I either have to find the contact again or redial. I've searched Google and found a discussion from 2013 for a Galaxy that had this problem but there was no resolution. Any ideas?
