My galaxy S3 stays on for like 5 seconds?

my galaxy S3 recently last night just began to have problems. i switched batteries with my mothers phone and it worked fine. but when i try to turn on my S3 it keeps vibrateing like the power button hold vibrate then it goe's to the openings but it freezes for half a second then shuts off? any solutions?

Welcome to Android Central! I'm not clear on the sequence of events. So is it shutting off when the original battery is in, or when your mother's battery is in? If it works fine with your mother's battery, but shuts off with your original battery, then the latter is likely failing, and you need a new battery.

i put my cell's battery into my moms phone and it worked tho? but when i put it back into mine i kept having the same problem.

Oh, so you're saying your battery works fine in your mother's phone. What about her battery in yours?

Sounds like it may be a shorted power switch. That's not an expensive repair. (Not $2, but not very expensive either. Take it in and ask for a "guesstimate". The switch is really cheap [a few bucks] so the question is how much they're going to charge you for a little labor.)
