Samsung S3 message tone

My Samsung S3 keeps giving off a message notification tone but there is no message.
I have gone to BadgeProvider and cleared data and cashe but that does not solve the problem.
Would appreciate help.

Welcome to Android Central! Is it the default notification tone, or a different one? Yahoo Mail is a frequent culprit.

It's the default notification tone. If it is the yahoo mail is there a way of silencing it?

If you have Yahoo Mail, open it, go to its app settings, and look for the notifications. Turn them off, and see if the notification persists.
