I mean I've always just hooked up my phone to my computer and have dome it manually that way. Or maybe even using ES file explorer off of the Play store.

Welcome to Android Central! You mean SD card, of course. The SIM has a very small amount of memory, and is primarily used to connect your phone to your wireless provider's network.

Poltergeist93 is correct. Using the computer's file explorer, you can usually transfer files from the internal storage to the external SD card when the phone is plugged into your computer via USB. Sometimes this doesn't work, though, because the external SD card isn't always visible on the computer. In that case, you could remove the SD card from the phone (unmounting first in Settings>Storage), then insert it into your computer. You could then transfer to photos that way.

There are many file manager apps you can try, but sometimes they can be tedious to use if you want to transfer a lot of files.
