Here's the problem: The Galaxy W, an older model budget phone of a family member, does not allow access to its folders via cable to PC. Short of sending the photos a few at a time by email, we feel quite stuck.

    Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! Is this the phone? Samsung Galaxy W I8150 - Full phone specifications

If it has Gingerbread, you should still be able to access the photos. When you plug the phone to the computer via USB, swipe down the notification shade on the phone, and tap on the USB connection notification (if present). What do you see? Select "MTP" or "USB Mass Storage" (sometimes called "Disk Drive"). Then see if you can access the folders using your computer's file explorer.
