On my Note 3 Neo why am I getting the error message Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available.?

Note 3 Neo software update - Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available.

I'm trying to update my Note 3 Neo to 4.4.2 and when I check for the software update it says, "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available." Also my device status is stated as custom.

The most ironic part is that I didn't even root my phone or install any custom ROMS. And also when I bought the device and checked for the update it said, "there are no updates yet." And I think that my device's status was official or normal.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

If you bought it new, return it. If used, and it was not described as having had a custom ROM installed, return it.
You might be able to flash a stock ROM yourself if you know how, but you shouldn't have to do that.
