Why won't my Nexus 5 turn on?

My Nexus 5 won't turn on!

My phone died completely last night so I plugged it in to charge. I turned it on more or less straight away and did something on it and it died again. I left it on charge overnight and when I woke up it was very hot. I have been trying to turn it on using different combinations of power button and volume keys and got nowhere. Now, 16 hours later, it hasn't been on since last night. What do I do?!?

It seems fairly likely to me that the battery has failed. Take a look at it....if it is bulging, it would be a good idea to get it out of the phone sooner rather than later.
There are online guides to DIY N5 battery replacement should you prefer to undertake that yourself.
