    Welcome to Android Central! Which device and which messaging app are you using?

    Typically, you can long-press the video, then select Save or Download. The tricky thing here is that you might not be able to see the file using the Downloads app--but if you use a file manager app like ES File Explorer, you should be able to see the file in the Downloads folder. It's an odd glitch that I think has to do with if the Download Manager is used to download the file.

    Once the video is in the Downloads folder, it should show up in your gallery. You could use the file manager to move the video file over to the Movies folder or the /DCIM/Camera folder.
