I have a moto x, use the stock people app and switched to hangouts as my sms app. I do have two contacts that also have gmail accounts (hangouts). I have their gmail address in my contacts and the only two contact details I have, besides their names, are a mobile number and e-mail address (gmail). Hangouts refuses to recognize the gmail addresses, so I am never able to start a "chat." It will always default to sms, even if my friend is signed in to his phone's hangout app. Has anyone run into this before? Maybe I'm missing something?
