Welcome to Android Central! Most newer devices don't have a USB Mass Storage/Disk Drive connection mode--only MTP or PTP. When you connect your phone to your computer via USB, swipe down the Notification Shade, tap the USB connection notification, and see if there is USB Mass Storage/Disk Drive available. If there isn't, then your phone doesn't have that capability. Use MTP.
