how to switch from a verizon flip phone on your own

hello,
i have been trying to figure out how to switch from a verizon flip phone to a motorola on my own. I tried looking up ways to do it online but i couldn't find anything really helpful. can you please tell me step by step how to do it?

you will most likely need a 4g lte verizon sim card and you can get one from the verizon store or buy one from a best buy.

but you will need a data plan on the line anyway is this a new motorola device?

You would have to log into My Verizon from a desktop browser (or mobile browser in desktop mode) and select the "activate or switch device" option (see screen shot below). If it is a non-4GLTE phone, then you would just need to enter the IMEI. If it is a 4GLTE phone then you would need a sim. If you want to do it online, the online activation process will ask you for a sim, and will send you a sim, if you don't already have one. I put together a quick DIY here:
