I just bought a Samsung Galaxy s4. When I tried to do software update I get a message saying "this device has been modified" you can not update software. I have also received a message saying "this device has been rooted". Everything seems to work besides my wifi will not turn on. I'm always using my wifi. Do the messages have anything to do with why wifi won't turn on? Is there something I can do to make my wifi work again?

it sounds like the original owner rooted the device and is possibly running a custom ROM which is causing issues for updates or they altered the version which seems like something may have disabled the wifi radios.

Your best bet is to watch a video like this for directions

and you can download a stock rom from a site like this Galaxy S4 Stock Firmware | GalaxyS4Root.com jst match it to your correct model.
