Why doesn't my e mail refresh on my galaxy s3 since the update??

I have all the synch functions set to "on", yet my e mail will not refresh, since I downloaded the stupid 4.2 update. Can someone please help me with suggestions?
Also, the notification icons (like for battery life) have turned to white, instead of the green it was. What's this about. Any help (especially with the e mail!!!) will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

Remove the email account. Add a new account - the same one.

If that doesn't fix it, bring the phone to the carrier's repair store - the update went bad. They broke it, they get to reflash the update (or replace the phone if the update broke it).

The color change is probably due to the fact that the update uses different colors than the old version.
