Why doesn't screen automatically rotate?

why the screen no longer rotates automatically ?

About Sony Xperia z1Compact
android 4.4.4
version 14.4.A.0.108
After last automatic update, the screen no longer rotates automatically,
In the app. 'maps' the map does not join (turns) to the north any-more.
The setting are ' turn automatic ' !

Welcome to Android Central! Are you talking about the whole screen not auto-rotating, or is this just limited to Google Maps? In Maps, if north is not up, then use two fingers to rotate it slightly, then tap the compass icon that appears at the upper right. It will then adjust to have north face up.

Thanks fa lot for this fast reaction,
the whole screen not auto-rotating, pictures, video's,.., so not just limited to Google Maps.

Go to Settings>Accessibility​--is Auto-Rotate checked on?

Does this persist after a reboot?

Not sure if this will work on the Z1 Compact, but try booting into Recovery and wiping the cache partition, which won't erase any personal data: Reset: Sony Xperia Z | T-Mobile Support

I wish life was always that simple! The reset has solved the problem, thank you very much.
it works also on the Z1 Compact

" Wipe cache partition :

If the phone is not working correctly, you may need to clear the cache partition.
Wiping the cache partition does not delete any personal data.

To wipe the cache partition, follow these steps:
While the device is on, press and hold the Power and Volume Up keys.
Wait for the screen to shut off and the device to vibrate once (about 3 seconds).
Release the keys once the screen has shut off.
