I want to put music on my phone but i'm not sure how to do that. Do I need an app or is there something else?

That depends on what the music is and where it is. Assuming it's not DRM-protected, and it's a file type that some app on your phone can play, plug the phone into the computer the music files are on, open the computer folder in one window, open the phone in another window (you might want to make a separate mp3 or music or whatever folder on the phone), then drag the files from the computer to the phone.

(Plug the phone into the computer, not into a USB hub - many of them can't handle long file transfers, so you'd have to copy one song at a time.)

If the music is DRM-protected, you can't copy it to another device.

If you don't have an app to play that file type either convert it to a file type you CAN play on the phone (use Google - there are dozens of free programs to do that) or install a free app on the phone that plays that type of file.
