droid doesn't recognize usb connection to computer

I want to download a video from my Motorola HD droid to my computer. I connect the usb cord to the phone and the computer and neither recognizes the connection. Help. Nothing shows up in the notifications on the phone and the pc doesn't recognize the usb connection on removable devices

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone is it, the Droid Razr HD? Are you using the original USB cable? Try using a different one, since cables can fail. 3rd party cables can be defective as well.
