Does having a scratch on the camera lens affect the pictures you take?

A

AC Question

I just got my Galaxy S5 just a month ago, I took that plastic off the lens, and just a week ago, I just found a scratch on the lens. (From keeping the phone facing up and scratching it, by accident) and I just wanted to know if it's bad

There's certainly nothing good about it. It will scatter some of the light entering the lens and tend to cause flare, especially if there is a strong light source within the field of view, as well as impairing the definition. The extent to which it does both those things depends on how bad the scratch is. If it's slight, the effects might be unnoticeable.

I wish that the manufacturers would provide protection for phone camera lenses.
