Why isn't anything happening when I plug my Moto G into my laptop?

When I plug in my moto g to my laptop nothing comes up?

When I plug in my moto g to my laptop it does charge but a box didn't pop up like it does with my old phone. Does anyone know why and what I should do?

1) Have you installed the Motorola - Mac & Windows Drivers (whichever is appropriate) in your laptop?

2) Are you using the USB cable that came with the phone? (A cable that comes with a device that doesn't do data, like a wireless headset, usually doesn't have data wires in it, just power wires.)

Are you plugging directly into the laptop, not into a USB hub? Some hubs don't work well with phones.
