what happens if I clear the cache in my picture and music gallery?

My phone is teling me to clear my cache in my gallery and music hub but will I lose my pictures and music? I have a galaxy s3.

No u shouldn't i clear them all the time it just makes more room ...

Aztec is quite right. I cleared both the cache and data in the Gallery app a few days ago, and no photos were lost.

The cache is the temporary files that Gallery makes to display the pictures. It does that every time you run Gallery. You can't really clear the cache when Gallery is running, and clearing it when Gallery isn't running won't have any effect except to clear up some storage. (All apps should really clear their own cache upon exiting, but Google's philosophy is that no app should take more than 1 second to fully open, and having the temporary files already in storage speeds things up a bit - and many little bits add up to fast opening.)

I use an app called SD Maid and I like to clean out my phone once or twice a week along with a battery pull. Definitely do it if you have issues.
