I am trying to find a way to fix the new Kit Kat update so I can use my sd card again. I am Not too big on the idea of rooting my phone because I don't know how to do it. Does anyone have any insight on updates or apps that can fix the new android kitkat update?

The SD card now hos Linux permissions, not Windows permissions (which are basically (anyone can write anywhere on the card"). An app that creates a folder can write to it. Other apps can read that folder but can't write to it. Rooted apps (apps running under su on a rooted phone) can write to any folder. Any app can write to the root of the card itself (not inside any folder).

The only "fix" for that is to downgrade to 4.3, or to try one of the apps that claims to "fix" the "problem" (I've never found one that actually did).

Use the stock file manager that came by default. They are not fancy but should fix your problem. You will run into this issue only when trying to write to sd card via user installed apps.
