MHL3 and Note4: on certified TV only??

Hi,

if I connect the Samsung MHL3.0 Adapter EE-HN910 to the Galaxy Note4, and to the Tv via Hdmi, and to external power source (!!),
does the mirroring work fine even on a Tv set from year 2008, i.e. on a NOT mhl certified tv?
reading wikipedia s.v. MHL > "Connectors", it will do fine; reading samsung support team it doesnt. mirroring available onlt on tv set with certification MHL on the hdmi port.... therefore I am confused.
