Why won't my new Maxell earbuds fit?

I have a Motorola Moto G android phone with a straight plug. I got earbuds for it just to find they won't fit. I see on back of the box they are a 3.5mm straight plug. I know straight plug earbuds USED to be universal but they obviously aren't anymore. Can anyone tell me what size I need for my Moto G? Thanks for any help!

Your MotoG is indeed a 3.5mm headphone jack. However once in a while you'll come across a situation where either the jack itself is a hair smaller, or where the plug is a hair larger - leading to troubles getting the two together.

try a different set of headphones (from a different brand) and see if they plug in better. Don't use too much force, you don't want to damage anything!
