How to create a shortcut to a folder?

A

AC Question

All android apps create a shortcut to an app/software and not to a folder.

What I want to do is create the shortcut to a folder which may contain many videos, PDFs, EPubs, etc and by clicking on the shortcut, it will open the folder and allow me to select a file to play/read/etc.

I must be missing something as I cannot seem to figure this out.

ps: I am new to android

Welcome to Android Central! A shortcut like that would essentially need to open a file manager app that would then show the folder contents. I believe that's possible with ES File Explorer, and is probably also a feature of many other file manager apps.

Which phone do you have? Some devices have a preinstalled file manager, so you might already have that function. Long-press a blank part of the homescreen, then see if you can add a widget that is a folder shortcut.
