I have an iRulu R17 tablet running KitKat 4.4.2 and have been trying to get write access to the external SD card with no luck so far. Have tried several different options.

Was looking through the Root and found the sdcard and the extsd folders in a directory. Could the solution be as simple as renaming the folders?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

No. Any app can create a folder on the external card, and any app can write to the root of the card or to a folder it created.

An app can't write to a folder it doesn't have permissions to.

Renaming the mount points (you're not renaming folders if you "swap" extsd and sdcard) won't change what you're writing to, it'll just confuse some apps.
