Why can't I hard reset my son's Zeepad 7.0?

I can't hard reset my son's Zeepad 7.0

Ok, so my decided he needed to put a passcode on his Zeepad 7.0 . Well he forgot the code like a week later and now its locked. I've been watching videos and reading forums on how to factory reset it. I've tried the power down then hold the power and up volume. The little android figure shows up but thats it. The utilities screen never shows up for me to wipe the tablet. Has anyone ever experienced this and How can I correct it. I would try a hard reset with a pc however I don't have a pc i have a MacBook. I would greatly appreciate any and all help.

Welcome to Android Central! When you see the Android figure, try various button press combinations. On the Nexus 7 and Nexus 5, when the "No Command" screen is shown with the Android lying down, you need to press and hold Power, then tap Volume Up.
