Note 4 user here, switched over to Android from iPhone. Messages are causing a serious lag in phone, delayed keyboard, multiple inputs of words, etc.

Would like to back them up onto my computer but cannot seem to find an app/method of doing so. Used to use DiskAid for iPhone. Tried backing up with SMS Backup & Restore, which successfully created an on-phone backup and exported to Google Drive, however it exports as XML/XMS format which is not readable on Mac.

Would ideally like to be able to export SMS/MMS from a contact into a single readable PDF. Can someone help?

Many of the third party apps for SMS have backup methods built in that should allow you to view them even on a Mac. Look at Handcent, GO SMS, and Chomp.

This will be helpful for the future, but unfortunately doesn't fix my problem of needing to import/backup 7,000+ pre-existing SMS messages in the default messaging app...

I'm not 100% but third party apps just deliver and handle your messages, your device still receives them and sends them. If you install a third party app and restart you device I think they will show up in the app.

SMS Backup & Restore will produce an xml file. From there you can convert it to something you can use.

As I wrote in my initial post, SMS Backup & Restore did create XML file but it was not useable.

Then try again. It's a fully formatted xml 1.0 file, and it's completely usable. Or did you mean that you just don't know what to do with an xml file? (Hint: Google convert xml to xls.)

Not convertible to PDF with retention of original images and emoji's contained in the SMS/MMS.
