Preferably with a 3 inch screen. I do a lot of cycling and don't want a huge phone in my pocket. I must get a phone that can run Roger Voice, the new speech to text app for deaf people. I am partly deaf with bad tinnitus so, at the very least, I need a hearing aid compatible phone. But I might want to install Ubuntu on it later, for fun, and only if it's compatible with my other needs. Not interested in listening to music or watching videos.

I think your best bet would be getting a 2013 Moto X. Sure it is a 4.7" phone, but it doesn't feel like it.

Definitely the x 2013. There aren't any good phones that have a smaller form factor.

The htc droid incredible 4g lte is 4".keep in mind that the phone is from mid 2012, so specs are dated, and it had a fairly large form factor for its size
