I wanted to format my old microSD card as I bought a new one, but I didn't want my photos to be retrievable, so I decided to encrypt the MicroSD card before formatting it. I encrypted my external SD card on my Galaxy S4 (Andriod version 4.4.2) and then I formatted it. I then downloaded a card recovery program and ran it on the formatted card. To my surprise, all the photos I had on the MicroSD card were retrievable even after encryption.
I then tested it again; I mounted the MicroSD card, took a picture, encrypted the files, formatted the card, and then ran it through a card recovery program. Once again, the photo I took was retrievable.
What is the cause of this? Is it even worth encrypting my external MicroSD card when it does nothing to protect my photos?
Thanks!
