Why am I getting the error message adb server out of date when I try to download the latest update?

adb server out of date!

im trying to get the latest update 5.0 on my nexus 5 but in cmd promt it says

ADB server out dated
ADB server ddint ACK
failed to start daemon
error: unknown host service

so it wont transfer the file
