I need to hook up my laptop and my friends laptop together so we can play games together, and we don't have a router around us so we cant use that. So i was thinking I could use my Galaxy S5 but I don't get service inside of my school building due to T-Mobiles signals in my town. So could I use the tethering thing without actually using internet and just have it as a LAN?

Welcome to Android Central! I don't think that's possible. P2P seems to be useful only for direct file transfers, not for linking two computers for gameplay.
