My phone Moto E has 4Gb storage but only 2.2 Gb available to users. My phone supporting removable-SD card also. This 2.2Gb is named as "Internal Storage" in settings/storage. I am planning to flash cyanogenMod 11 M12, i have backed up everything. I dont want any user data like photos, media, apps in that 2.2 Gb internal storage. i want to start a fresh as like when i bought new phone. In advanced wipe there is six partitions

    /dalvik cache
    /System
    /data
    /internal storage
    /cache
    /micro sd card

I thought user installed apps are stored in internal storage. using storage partition software, found that both /data partition and /internal storage partition have same size of 2.2Gb! If both are same then why TWRP show data and internal storage as different partitions?

    If both are not same
how /data different from /system? and
how /data different from /internal storage?

I read that wiping data/cache/dalvik would not create any problem for flashing new ROM.
shall I wipe everything except /micro-sd card to flash new ROM?
Will any problem arise if i wipe /internal storage so that i could not flash new ROM?
Because of data and internal storage confusion i could not proceed further please help. thanks in advance.

    Welcome to AC
There is a factory reset option. That wipes only user files and cache.

Probably the safer way is to plug the device into a PC and delete files that way. The PC should protect you from deleting anything sensitive.
