How do I do a screen capture on my DTC gt19 phone with Android version 4.2.2?

how to screen capture in dtc gt19 phone with android version 4.2.2

I tried the power button thing but it only shows the power off,restart....and if i press the volume down it only makes it silent,vibrate or with ringtone

I have difficulty when screenshotting with my Nexus 5. Most times, the Volume slider comes up. Eventually I'll get it to work. If what you're doing is the correct method for your device - and I can't find any helpful sites regarding that - keep trying.
