In the stock calendar app on my Droid Turbo running 4.4.4, when I add an appointment, the default calendar is always a iCal that I have added (not to mention it's read only). How to I set the calendar I want as default?

Welcome to Android Central! What happens if you deselect that calendar from being currently displayed? So only have your Google calendar selected to display--does it still default to the iCal one?

It defaults to a different ical. Then I redisplay that other calendar and it goes back to that one.

The stock calendar app defaults to the last calendar used, so create a new event, then from within the new event, change the calendar to the desired one. Your next new event should default to the desired calendar. This worked for my Galaxy S6 running 5.1.1.
