why will my new Galaxy s5 not authenticate the wifi password?

The SSID shows the correct ID on the phone, but when I enter the password, which we have used for years, I receive the message that the password is incorrect. I have typed in the password at least 20 times.

Welcome to Android Central! The SSID is unique, right? It isn't the generic SSID that the router came with, like "linksys," is it? If it's a generic SSID, it's possible the phone could be trying to connect with a neighbor's router with the same generic SSID.
