Are widgets a battery drain on Android? Of course, they will use some power to run, but is it enough to deter one from using widgets?

It depends on the widget. A weather one will use more juice than a simple clock. And a news reader widget will use more or less (battery and data) on depending the refreshing time. Just try to keep the update times in a sensible level. And don't overpopulate your screen with them, no matter how nice they look. :)
